Happy ‘day after’ Easter!
Yesterday I baked a ham, glazed in maple syrup ( the real kind- I’m from northeast Ohio for God’s sake), scalloped some new potatoes with cheddar cheese, roasted fresh stalks of asparagus with garlic and lemon, and cut a ‘fresh from the garden’ Caprese salad drizzled with balsamic glaze.
The table was set with my grandmother Daisy’s spring china (Charlotte by Clarice Cliff- I just LOVE china don’t you?) and her fancy silver (Rose Point by Wallace Sterling, 1934- I REALLY LOVE Sterling Silver), centered by a spring spray of long-necked butter yellow tulips, purple stock, and, of course, daffodils. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Dessert was fresh strawberries topped with whipped cream or two kinds of stuffed cupcakes (vanilla with strawberry filling or chocolate eclair) from my favorite french bakery on Magazine St- O’Delice.
My favorite French mother, Leah, was having the exact same meal in Ohio!  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree- or in this case, the ham.

Thank you, Mom, for teaching me everything I know.
