A rose is a rose is a rose

     Famously attributed to Gertrude Stein, “A rose is a rose is a rose”, simply means things are what they are.
     On an unexpected visit to California last week it had never been more true: the sun will come up, gasoline fuels our cars, we need to eat (and sleep), people die, and roses are always beautiful.
     On an unexpected visit to Santa Barbara for an afternoon, my sister Melissa, and I, took a trolley tour that deposited us at the famous Old Mission, where most people were more interested in the Franciscan Spanish architecture of the buildings- but I headed to the rose garden.

Thank you Ms. Stein
for being so right and
using a glorious metaphor.
