Negotiating Relaxation

I once read that you can find as much out about a person by how they decompress, as from the shoes they wear.

What do these say I wonder?

Some people play a sport. I hate sports.

Some people knit. Nope. Carpal Tunnel. And cat ladies…

Others watch mindless television. Actually…

Maybe you play an instrument?

I don’t know about you but this just seems way too easy.

Or relax with a libation? There’s always a libation.

Me? I play on-line poker and negotiate border disputes. Sometimes at the same time.

It’s a gift.

How do you decompress?

  • Tammy - Reading, walking, and having glorious catch-up conversations with old friends. It’s not the most exciting, but it’s the best. I’m a solitude seeker, always have been. When the going gets tough, I retreat, think it over, plot, plan then execute. Bam! Negotiating border disputes does sound fun, though.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - As I’ve gotten older I too seek solitude. We’re very comfortable in our own skins, and of course, having friends like you helps. Settling Border Disputes- I can do that in my sleep!ReplyCancel

  • Sheryl - Just discovered adult coloring books – fun!!ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Adult coloring books???? Really??? How can I get my hands on a few?ReplyCancel

  • Lisa at Grandma's Briefs - Ha! I decompress by sitting out on my deck in my rocking chair and listening to the birds as I rock back and forth…sometimes furiously, depending how COMPRESSED I am.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Yea- I don’t find that kind of repetitive motion comforting at all. I would wear a track in the floor. But I do LOVE birdsong!!!ReplyCancel

  • UP - I don’t decompress. One of these days I’m just going to explode! It terrifies me, but I rarely just veg.

    Weird, I know.

    • Cheryl - I have found that chilling is a ‘skill’. I have actually found myself clinching my teeth while sleeping! Dear God there is nothing worth that! I hope you find your release button before you explode!ReplyCancel

  • David Stillwell - I garden. It involves hoeing. It involves a spade with a long handle. It involves getting down on your knees and becoming filthy. It involves rewards… and once in a while a heart thumping startle…ReplyCancel

  • Toni McCloe - That was funny and it made me laugh. I meditate (and look for things that make me laugh.).ReplyCancel

  • Nancy Hill (@Nerthus) - I play stupid, mindless, bright and cheery computer games. I also scan public domain archives for fun.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - No. Seriously- I play on-line card games. They get my mind into a kind of mathematical rhythm and I ‘feel’ better. I’ll have to scan public domain for fun as well! Thanks for the inspiration!ReplyCancel

  • Doreen Mcgettigan - LOL Humor always relaxes me especially walking with my grandkids and listening to their funny stories.ReplyCancel

  • Ruth Curran - Laughter works for me — not just any kind of laughter but the from the bottom of my soul, can’t catch my breath, tears in my eyes kind of laughter. When life is just not that funny, a great piece of blues, soul, or gospel music works too! I do love reading your posts!ReplyCancel

  • Carol Cassara - Those are some shoes! If I wore them I certainly would not be decompressing, I’d be looking for a john! I decompress with junk TV. It works. It even puts me to sleep.ReplyCancel

  • Estelle - by hugging my daughter, reading, singing and watching Housewives shows.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Sounds like a winning combo Estelle! I hug my cats. The kid’s are grown and gone. πŸ™ReplyCancel

  • Mari Collier - You won’t believe this, but I read God’s Word. If it is nothing serious, I play Spider Solitaire. As for the shoes, people that wear those are completely mindless or else they like being laughed at.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Now, why wouldn’t I believe that? I think that’s lovely. PS:I’m pretty sure God’s hooked on Spider Solitaire too.ReplyCancel

  • Lois Alter Mark - You make me laugh so hard, which is a great way for me to decompress. I also like to just sit and read so you’re kind of a win win for me πŸ™‚ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - HahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaReplyCancel
