Making New Friends

I am a bad person blogger.

I don’t spend enough time (and effort) reading/finding/commenting/sharing new content by new bloggers.

I will freely admit this.

I suck. It’s a scrumptious pout surrounding the suck but a suck nonetheless.

I could do use the classic no-way-to-prove ‘Don’t worry. I stalk you’ bullshit excuse.

God knows I heard it often enough when I started, ‘Love you Cheryl. I don’t actually follow you but I STALK you!’ blahblahblah

And yet there you have it.

I’m like the old lady that is most happy with the thread bare mu-mu she just can’t give-up. The one that reminds her of her youth. The one that used to fit.

Delusion is a lovely companion.

However, knowing THIS, and knowing that one does not remain relevant unless one soldiers on and dances the dance and keeps current and shares the luv… I decided to luv back.

I’m not so bad after all? (Juries still out).

Oh oh… Juries in:  allow me to cut-to-the-chase.

I’ve been at this ‘thing’ for a while now.

I know A LOT of people.

My shizz ‘work’ has been recognized by my peers. I even have a tab at the top that will take you to the page that has all of the little icons for the ‘awards’ I’ve received, not that anyone looks. I don’t even look!

It’s a blessing. I’m grateful. I like Oscars. But it’s been a while.

So, you can imagine my surprise, when a week ago I received notification that I had been nominated for another Liebster award.

Bless Her Heart.

Making New Friends

I could go two ways with this: 1) Thank her and tell here I’ve done this about a million times and don’t think anyone really cares about me in this way anymore, or, 2) Thank her and be, yet again grateful, and jump through all of the hoops ’cause I remember how much fun and how exciting it was when I received MY first award and finding a new reader that thinks highly enough to even consider that my writing is something special is STILL important, and me we should all (just me) keep trying to spread the LUV.

No2 it is… no one’s too big for their britches.

As such, in this vain, I’d like to thank (from the bottom of my finely stemmed chilled pinot grigio glass) the wonderful Abby of Mid Life Crisis Nut for the accolade.

Abby is one of those new discoveries I talked about; a blog you should read.

She’s smart, she’s overwhelmed, she’s real and…  she lives in France. A perfect combo with wine in her back yard. Do I need to say more?

As so many of you know, the purpose of this ‘Award’ is to support other writers. In doing so, one is asked a number of questions that someone out there has decided may, in fact, be interesting to answer. You are also asked to nominate other writers with newer blogs, in the hopes that by doing so they will gain more followers- through your readers- problem is I don’t read a lot of NEW blogs. I should. I need too. I suck- remember?

Well, we could all use more followers, and I’m not immune to a little luv so here goes:

1) How did you decide on the name of your blog?

It was generic: the content could go in any direction.

2) Where does your inspiration come from?

Day to day living and copious amounts of alcohol. (Just kidding- kinda).

3) What is it you most love about blogging?

The fame. And the money.

4) What is your favorite food?

Wine. It’s a fruit right?

5) What is your favorite drink?

Guess.

6) What item can’t you live without?

My ATM card.

7) If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Near my children or the White House. Or with one of my children in the White House.

8) If you could meet anyone from History (past or present) who would it be?

Jesus. Then, maybe, Bill Murray. Maybe Bill first.

9) What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Gardening. Naked. At Midnight.

10) Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully above ground. Then again, I’ve heard there are some awesome ragers under….

Ta da!!!

Now, for the nominating new bloggers thingy. Oh boy. I’m a suck-head remember?

I actually did a crowd sourcing call-out with my rich & famous fellow bloggers (who else would I hang with? Seriously.) asking for newbie blogs they like and here are the ones I choose (ps: If you were on the ‘List’ and I’ve not mentioned you here it isn’t because I don’t think you ROCK, but because your content might actually add to the betterment of the human experience and I don’t know what to do with that. It’s soooo far from what I’m leaving behind).

Lynda Benson at Fitness Mom Wine Country because anyone that enjoys the grape AND is still fit is the kind of gal I’d like to go drinking with- not the yoga thing- just the vineyards. Just sayin’…

MJ Mele at Extreme Christian– and NO, it’s not an ‘extreme’ holy-roller religious site full of brimstone(r) and bullshit. It’s thought provoking (I need my thoughts provoked- otherwise they’d just as well stay in bed all day).

Eric Waechter at Opticynicism– don’t be alarmed at his gravatar photo. Think: Shel Silverstein and Where The Sidewalk Ends kinda cool. An ex-marine turned provocateur, that can actually write (Though I wouldn’t want to piss him off in a dark alley either- just sayin’).

Joy Christi at Comfy Town Chronicles– Comfy wife. Comfy life… and a whole lotta swear words. My kinda gal.

Jennifer Hall at I’m Dancing In The Rain– because life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about starting a storm. Oh yea…

Making new friends is always a good thing…

and maybe I suck a little less?

  • Nicki Lewis - I am just like you. Want to comment on others but hard time finding time or I read it but might not have a comment to makeReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - SO true. Just the other day I read a post where someone had their cat de-clawed and was defending the decision and I just couldn’t comment without screaming- so I didn’t. Or there are the posts that are just terrible writing and I can’t comment either. Then- there is just the TIME factor… or lack of such. All sorts of reasons.ReplyCancel

  • Joy Christi - Thank you so much! I am a horrible blogger, especially lately. I barely have time to punch out a post, let alone edit to make it, you know, GOOD. There hasn’t been time for poking around reading. I feel like that happens a lot this time of year for people.
I love the name of your blog, it immediately gives a sense of comfort. And you’re right about content, you can pretty much go anywhere.
I appreciate you naming me here. I shall try to be worthy!ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Hahaaaaaa. I feel your pain and you ARE worthy! Punch away!!ReplyCancel

  • Cary Vaughn - It’s always nice to be recognized as awesome, ain’t it. Now I feel like a suck-ass for never following through on my nominations….wait, no I don’t.
You are certainly a better person than me (I?) for following through with this (of course, you were always a better person). Which is why I read and adore you.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - I feel like I nominated you many years ago. Am I correct?ReplyCancel

  • Ellen Dolgen - I love your posts! Congrats on the honor. You deserve it!ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Oh Dear God Ellen-it was a lovely compliment but what pain in the ass. Nonetheless- there you have it.ReplyCancel

  • Abby - Dear Cheryl,
You had me at “hello”. I don’t even know where to start now:) I would never except such an incredibly warm reaction (to be honest I gave up on any hope you’d come back) to my nomination. I was aware that you’ve won the award before, and was therefore certain that you would just say “yeah whatever” and move on with your life. But then no, Cheryl (as usual) came back with a bang! I mean from now on I will really stalk you (in the most positive sense). You won me over with your “overwhelmed” – whatever you meant by that. And you make me (the beginner) feel incredibly honoured that you accepted to post, on top of it in such a priceless way. I just hope that you don’t take my nomination as brown-nosing of any kind. It was meant as a worship letter, but not of that kind. I really love your writing, it has me in stitches all the time, and am hooked on your posts for as long as you write! (gee it rhymes again, I cannot help it). Anyways, I’m absolutely trilled that you like me (and not only because we share the love for good wine – or sparkling for that matter). Loved to hear from you.

    • Cheryl - It was an HONOR Abby. Only a fool would snub their nose at anyone giving them such a lovely compliment- even if you’re (me) a 58 year old smartass with a very nice following. I hope this gets more readers your way! Your a GEM!ReplyCancel

  • MJM - You are freaking awesome my friend, thanks so much for the love and support, I greatly appreciate it.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - I’ve nominated you before- right? Like a million years ago?ReplyCancel

  • Lynda@fitnessmomwinecountry - Miss Cheryl …LOVE and thank you. Okay #9 {awesome}!
#4 is that like saying is Vodka vegan? I don’t blog enough for fame and I don’t have money, butsince you noticed me, then I feel pretty famous 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Eric Waechter - Thank you!! But wait . . . now what do I do? Answer the questions and nominate some more people? I can probably do that, just not right now because I’m busy. Well, I mean, I’m reading this blog and commenting on it instead of doing work that I am supposed to be doing.

Ok, I guess I’m not as busy as I said I was.

Alright, fine. I had nothing to do anyway.

Oh, and I don’t hang out in dark alleys (probably), so it’s all good.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Do with this what you wish my darling. I just LOVE your blog so I thought I’d give it a shout-out!ReplyCancel

  • Carpool Goddess - Congrats and well deserved! So fun getting to know you better.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - You’ve been nominated at LEAST once, tell me it’s so!?!ReplyCancel

  • Lois Alter Mark - Loved reading this and learning more about you! P.S. You don’t suck.ReplyCancel

  • Carolann - lol I love your honesty. It’s fun to get nominated for these things. I was just nominated for the Sisterhood of World Bloggers Award which I too will be proud to post and nominate others.ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Yes Yes YES! Always nice to have a new reader!ReplyCancel

  • Carol Cassara - I’m kind of laughing…. ok, I’m laughing. Also, now that I’ve seen your garden, I know for a fact you don’t suck. I am not one for those kind of awards and turned down my Lobster, Leebster or whatever LOL but I did love your post so what do I know?ReplyCancel

  • Kathleen O'Donnell - Blogs…ack. I blogged for two years when my book got published to help promote it. I don’t think it helped do that at all. Just gave me another thing to promote. Anyhoo – I felt so overwhelmed by it, trying to read other blogs, other authors books, that I felt paralyzed. So, I totally get not reading too many other bloggers on a regular basis. Now I’ve pretty much given up blogging to focus on my novels…but here I am reading yours! I think you should take every award you’re offered. You rock. And ignore how I made this whole thing about me. How do I do that? Congrats Cheryl!!ReplyCancel

    • Cheryl - Oh Kathleen, you’re too funny! I remember your blog. I read your blog. I commented in your blog! Now I just enjoy your gorgeous foodie pics, which are very fabulous and Rob Rhino! Thanks for stopping by lady! Love you!ReplyCancel

  • Mari Collier - So nice to read again! By the way, I always thought of grapes as wine in the raw form.ReplyCancel

  • Carolann Iadarola - lol I love your honesty. It’s fun to get nominated for these things. I was just nominated for the Sisterhood of World Bloggers Award which I too will be proud to post and nominate others.ReplyCancel

  • Janie Emaus - Such a refreshingly, honest post. I would love to see you again!ReplyCancel

  • Sue Pekarek - When you put it this way, Liebster seems like a pretty great award, you did it proud. I need a mini-me to make the rounds commenting.ReplyCancel

  • Haralee Weintraub - I find this funny since I just wrote a blog about awards!ReplyCancel

  • Gary Sidley - Your post (painfully) reminded me that, over recent months, I’ve not spent nearly as much time as I should interacting with all the wonderful humor bloggers. I’ve tended to devote more and more time to my antipsychiatry endeavours which, although rewarding in some respects, are nowhere near as enjoyable as reading (and writing) humor blogs.

In fact I’ve decided to try and change my ways. Watch this space.ReplyCancel
