Shedding Light On Resolutions




What is it about resolutions that’s so infuriating?


Probably that we believe that making a ‘promise’ to ourselves, and having that ‘promise’ begin on the first day of a new year will somehow s-o-m-e-h-o-w increase our odds at winning the lack of commitment lotto we will all certainly fall prey to.


Silly humans.


Of course, any day is the first day of the rest of your life, and just as equally a good day to start your journey into self loathing, so I don’t make New Year Resolutions, but if I did I’d engage in activities and actions that I would have some measure of success in attaining.



As such, I resolve to do what I know I CAN accomplish, like:



  • Throw more parties.

  • Eat what I want to.

  • Get more hydration from liquids with labels like Merlot.

  • Communicate with less clarity.

  • Loose my temper routinely.

  • Drive faster.

  • Spend more money.

  • Swear with abandon (wait…)

  • Wear a bikini.

  • Pick-up a new bad habit.

  • Let the organizational structure of our homelife fall three sheets to the wind.

  • Sleep as late as I want to and have breakfast in bed as long as I’m at it.

  • Get less exercise.

  • Run as far, and as fast, as I can from my emotions.

  • Learn a new language- silence.

  • Stop talking to new people.

  • Watch more TV.

  • Read less.



And generally, just do what I want- it might kill me, but at least I’ll have given it my all, and not challenged myself.


Happy New Year to all of you who are going in a different direction.


I’ll keep the light on.

  • Stephanie - Lol this is awesome. I’m with you with all what you said. I don’t ever make New Years resolutions just because a.) I’ll never commit to it the entire year and b.) like you said any day is the first day of the rest of your life. If I wanna commit to start working out more, I’m not going to wait until January 1st to do so, Imma do it today, right now!
